One wild weekend....

Friday night consisted of 8 waredrobe changes, a trip to South Minneapolis and we didn't get home until 4:30 in the morning....were we checking out the Twin Cities latest hotspot??? Unfortunately, no....Harrison had a virus and we were in the emergency room at the Children's Hospital. Harrison started to get sick on Friday and by Friday night, he hadn't kept anything down in 24 hours. He got an IV at the ER and they thought it should get him over the "hump". He was pretty sick all day on Saturday so Sunday morning we took him back to the ER. He had another IV and they decided to admit him because we was not perking up. They also discovered he had an ear infection and strep throat (which is rare in kids under 2).If poor little Harrison wasn't dealing with enough, he had a strange reaction to the IV called "Third Spacing" where fluid deposits outside the tissue and plasma. This condition caused H to get really puffy. Harrison unfortunately had to have an IV for most of his stay but when he was feeling better, he liked to push it around and make car noises..."vroom! vroom!"We had to get creative to keep him entertained in the hospital room. Finally the hunger strike was over...Harrison was such a good boy through the whole ordeal. He didn't cry even when he was getting blood drawn or the IV's and he charmed all the nurses! We are VERY lucky to live in an area with such good medical care and we knew we were in good hands. Spending time at a Children's Hospital really makes you feel blessed for having a healthy child. We knew Harrison would be OK in a couple of days but there are a lot of parents who spend weeks or months at the hospital with their kids. I am happy to report that after 3 nights (not including the first night in the ER), we are home! Harrison is feeling MUCH, MUCH better. We are still being cautious with his food but other than that he is back to normal!

Winter Fun

We kicked our weekend off by meeting some friends at a local ice rink. I think next time we'll have to put a helmet on Harrison and just let him loose on the ice. He enjoyed riding in the stroller around the rink for a little while but then just played in the snow. Matt's big accomplishment this weekend was building a workbench in the utility room in the basement. Harrison enjoyed helping him. I must say it turned out pretty well!

Sunday, we went over to the Flynns to watch the Vikings game and so Harrison could have a playdate with Thomas. The two boys made up quite the meal in the kitchen.

It was funny watching them because the really knew how to use everything.

After their big meal, they had a nap. When they woke up, they thought they should get some exercise to burn off some calories.

Pearly whites

Harrison gets very excited each night when we say it is time to go brush his teeth. He runs to the bathroom, opens the drawer that houses his toothbrush, and then sits down on the mat. Now keep in mind, he sucks on the toothbrush more than actually brushing but at least it is a start.

We had another milestone this week. Harrison's new vocabulary has provided some clarity at our house. Harrison has informed us that the remote control belongs to him. He has also informed us that several other things are "mine"...the ball, the cup, the brush...pretty much everything he can get his hands on are all "mine". Here Matt and I were thinking because we bought all the things that Harrison claims are "mine", that they belong to us. We are so thankful he learned this word so now we never have to wonder what is "mine" again. Now that all that is settled...we can work on the word "sharing".

Wild animal!

Our little socialite had a great weekend. After our ECFE class, we went over to the Hynes' for lunch. (They used to live next door to us.) We had a great time catching up John and Laurie while Harrison played with with Ellen and Taylor. They decided to play beauty shop and give Harrison a new hair-do!Saturday night we had dinner at the Hanson's. Maggie (who is almost 3) was very kind to share her toys with Harrison. Harrison actually really liked playing with her princess house. (Matt has informed me that Harrison will NOT be getting one.)
Sunday morning we headed out to the Minnesota Zoo with Erik, Olivia, and Stella Swenson. There is actually a lot to do in the winter at the zoo. We saw lots of birds, ,fish, dolphins, and other critters. Harrison ran through all the exhibits pointing and excited to see all the animals. The only souvenir he got, however, was a bump on the head while on the monorail. No permanent damage but there will be a bump and black and blue mark for a while. Despite the fall, we had a great time!

Since he loved the zoo (and since Matt said he can't get a Princess castle) I got him a "Little People Farm" today. He was very excited to see it and play with it after his nap.

Snow Day

I forgot to post the pictures from our post-Christmas blizzard fun out in the snow. Harrison was very excited to get outside and check out this "snow" stuff we had been hyping all week. He loved it! I can't wait for it to warm up enough for him (and me) to go out and play some more. It should be warm enough by March...

Happy New Year!

We were lucky enough to ring in 2010 with good friends. Harrison had a great time playing with all the kids and we had a great time playing with all the parents especially after all the kids were in bed! (And the ladies had an even better time beating the guys at games!) Harrison's made it until about 9:00 on NYE. Pretty good being that he usually is sleeping by 8:00. This year we upgraded his accommocations from the closet in the basement to a closet on the mainfloor.

2009 NYE Accommodations

We had some great times in 2009 with this group and look forward to many good times in 2010 with them!
Sunday we had our fun monthly dinner with Matt's cousins Molly, Katie, and their families. Harrison got to meet little Issac and loved pulling out every one of Maddie and Reilly's toys. A great afternoon celebrating a Vikings victory and for Matt to wrap up another holiday break!
We actually got everyone in one spot for a picture! (Notice Harrison's smile...he now says cheese for pictures and does a fake smile. Hmmmm...I wonder if he gets his picture taken a lot?!??!)
